Né en 1954 à Béziers, vit en Afrique (Pointe-Noire Congo) jusqu'en 1972.
Puis étudie de 1973 à 1978 aux Beaux-Arts à Montpellier (DNBA-Gravure).
Miscellanées informatiques paradoxales, ludiques et graves,
les oeuvres de Jacques SOUM offrent au regard son imaginaire.
Un imaginaire "inconscience de l'inconscient" comme le définissait Roland Barthes,
pur et intemporel qu'il "pervertit" d'une réalité tout droit sortie de notre quotidien.
Construit sur des gammes iconographiques idéales aléatoirement ordonnées,
ce monde virtuel est volontairement destructuré par l'artiste à coups de pinceaux, traces réelles,
interventions primitives mais conscientes qui éveillent le spectateur pour le faire entrer dans un rêve devenu objet.
Les créations de Soum est un kaléidoscope représentant les actualités de notre planète tant sur le plan culturel, politique, social, économique.

Built on ideal iconographic ranges ordered by chance, this virtual world is voluntarily un structured by the artist with blows of brushes, real traces, primitive
but with conscious interventions which wake up the spectator to insert it in a dream that become object.
In the eye to make the remainder : To penetrate this kaleidoscope, switch from an image to another, to be extracted from a field of signs to plunge in a sea of painting and to float
between two waters , two words, to lose itself in a plentiful labyrinth before finding again its own way there suddenly obvious.........
